Is head lice a parasite?

The head louse, or Pediculus humanus capitis, is a parasitic insect that can be found on the head , eyebrows, and eyelashes of people. Head lice feed on human blood several time a day and live close to the human scalp.

What are head lice?

Head lice are tiny, wingless insects that live on the human scalp. They are about as big as sesame seeds. Head lice sustain themselves by sucking blood—just as mosquitoes do. However, unlike mosquitoes, lice cannot fly or jump from one person to another; they can only crawl.
